Cultivating an appreciation for music early on is beneficial for children. Studies have shown that music training enhances brain function, plus – music is just so fun for them to get into!
Seimpi School Of Music: Review
When I was preparing Ellie to try out the Jumpstart Music Class (for 12-23 months old) at Seimpi School of Music, I was having in mind our previous experience at Our Music Studio. I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be quite different.
Taken from their website, “Current research indicates that children start learning even before they are born and that music plays a vital role in developing the child’s mental as well as emotional faculties. Children between the age of 12months to 24months are especially keen and adept at learning music through the process of absorption with or without random or purposeful responses.”
We went to their branch at Centrepoint, and it was located at a corner, though it was not that difficult to locate. The environment was quiet and calm, and their staff was friendly and professional. We were brought to the small class (only 2-3 toddlers for the class that we attended) and Ellie was immediately attracted to their musical instruments. I had to persuade her to sit down and wait for the teacher to start the class!
The teacher played songs while teaching the little ones very specific musical knowledge, which I thought was a very interesting approach. Ellie enjoyed fiddling with the bells and learned to recognize notes after a few sessions! While I do not expect much from music classes for toddlers, I thought the well thought out curriculum was impressive.
Ellie had difficulty when the teacher kept telling them to sit and cross their legs during her first lesson. She is an active little toddler after all! 🙂 But there was a noticeable improvement in her ability to concentrate during the second lesson! She was able to follow the teacher’s instructions better and was generally more comfortable with the setting.
She enjoyed the mini-storytelling and when they were told to dance around. But I think her favorite part has to be playing with different musical instruments. 🙂
All in all, she had a great time though I was initially worried that the timing was too near her naptime. The music teacher was skilled and engaging, and I’m looking forward to watching Ellie’s progress during the next few sessions!
Disclosure: Seimpi School of Music has very generously sponsored Ellie’s music classes for 3 months in exchange for honest reviews. All of the opinions are mine, and I only share what I believe to be beneficial for my readers. Look out for more review posts of this class as Ellie continues attending!
