Around the end of 2012, we started taking the preparation for conception more seriously. I bought several books to read up on, and honestly – it was all very fun and exciting to me! Though the learning curve was steep, just thinking of the possibility of having a baby to call our own and to nurture for life, kept me very motivated.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.

Supernatural Childbirth – highly recommended! I gave this book to a few friends when they started family planning. 🙂
God’s Plan for Pregnancy: From Conception to Childbirth and Beyond – this was given to me by a sweet friend, and I cannot tell you how much it has ministered to my heart! This helped me see things from God’s perspective instead of my anxious, do-it-in-my-own-strength limited perspective. In my opinion, it is a must-get for every Christian who desires to have children.
Open Heavens Prayers For Fertility & Pregnancy (Open Heavens Prayers Series) – another gift from a friend. This is a quick read, and very helpful too!
The Ultimate Fertility Journal & Keepsake – I loved how I could journal my thoughts in this, and see the conceiving journey as an enjoyable process instead of simply a destination to get to. 😉
The Baby-Making Bible: Simple Steps to Enhance Your Fertility and Improve Your Chances of Getting Pregnant – though I chose not to use the information in it pertaining to yoga, I still found this book very useful as it integrates both the Western and Chinese approach to healing and strengthening your body. Loved the recipes too!
Beginning our preparation
Somewhere in the beginning of 2013, I also started seeing a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor (a very patient and lovely Christian lady), and Bren tried his best to set aside more time for home matters, and came back earlier on weekdays too. I tried to cook healthy meals more often, and intentionally soaked my mind with the Word of God.
Leviticus 26:9 ministered to me the most – “I will look on you with favour and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.”
It was a battle in my mind, especially when doubts crept in. And I had to remind myself that whatever God says, He will do. His Word never fails.
On a daily basis, we had to be very intentional about protecting our time and energy, so that we were not physically and emotionally spent by the end of the day. 🙂
Well, life does happen, and there were periods of time when we were both completely exhausted, but embarking on this together was like agreeing to a new adventure, and we learnt a lot along the way.
